Networking, Linux & Windows for Security
Teaches the networking and operating-system essentials that every defender and tester relies on: the OSI and TCP/IP models, ports and protocols, subnetting, the Linux command line and permissions, and Windows accounts, services and event logs. Each topic is tied to what it means for spotting weaknesses and attacks.

What you will learn
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Explain the OSI and TCP/IP layers and place common protocols and devices in them
- Identify the well-known ports and what service normally listens on each
- Calculate the network size and usable host count for a given prefix length such as /24 or /27
- Read a Linux permission string and fix an over-permissive file using chmod
- Identify listening services and risky sudo or setuid configurations from simulated terminal output
- Read a Windows Security log extract to find a brute-force attempt and the actions that followed
Before you start
None; basic comfort using a computer. The first course in this path is helpful but not required.
Tools you will use
Course outline
6 lessons in 2 modules.
